Game Show - Evaluation UNIT 61

Evaluation

  • What went well in terms of technical details and did you have any problems?

In terms of technical details, we had a couple of issues technically because it was done it quite a fast paste. The battery on the camera ran out which delayed us in time, this was a technical issue but, was easily solved as it wasn't much of a problem. The microphone was placed in awkward positions which made the volumes differ from time to time.
  •  What went well creatively and did you have any problems?
Creatively, we were able to set the scene properly as the scenery went according to the plan we originally set out. However, the green screen was over lit which caused a problem whilst editing as it was harder to key out the green screen on the moving images. The presenter was wearing glasses and in this case the light was reflecting the green screen onto his glasses which clashed together when it came to the editing side of the project. The microphone was really far away from the presenter which made it harder for the audience to hear him clearly, the tables in the medium close up shot were not straight which made it look like the scenery wasn't thought of too deeply.
  • Did the group work well together. In what way?
The group worked well together considering what they had to use, other than the technical and creative issues everyone worked efficiently with no arguments which I actually found was great because it's always important to maintain a good relationship with your peers in order to produce good work and that's exactly what took place, remarkable behaviour. When everyone was given the task we all spoke together in and orderly form how we'd come about completing the task, we gave each other roles within the classes and we went forward. Whilst we were working, we managed to all do the work that we were assigned to which sped up the process of finishing the project and this is where group work becomes fun.
  • Were there any problems within group?
Within my group, I didn't discover any problems unless it was a misunderstanding or personal thoughts of one another. I don't usually take interest to group work but, I found that when everyone in your group is on the same mission as you and they want to proceed and succeed as much as you. You will find that it becomes less like work and more like fun.
  • Did you find the project useful to you. What did you learn?
I'm a big fan of the fact that we learn new things everyday and in this situation, I found not only that group work is amazing at times but that, i've learnt how to make better cuts during my editing and how to get better shots in specific scenes, I feel like my mind has opened up that little extra.
  • If you could do it again what would you change?
If I could do the task assigned again, I would be grateful because even since we complete it. I could fully say that i've learnt 101 things that I thought I wouldn't have learnt so quickly. If I could change a few things it would have to be the position of the microphone in order to gain better sound quality, I would also change my the angles in which we filmed the presenter and contestants in because it was too basic and looked like we underthought the shots. I'd like to change the presenter as they weren't able to give enough facial expressions to give the audience enough energy, which is quite a downfall but still minor. I would change the positioning of the tables so that, it looks more organised and the reason for this is that, the tables were quite crooked and this looks unprofessional.
  • How did the videos compare with the original criteria?
The comparison between the completed project and the criteria we originally followed was not at too much of a difference, and the reason that there was still a little difference was because at the ending of the project it happened to be that we all started to get tired so as a group we stopped following the task as much as when we began the task.

Task 1 Unit 61 Interactive Media Design - Game Show

The Game Show

The game show i've chosen to research about is a show based in both the UK and US which has been trending for a good number of years. The show is called "Wheel of Fortune" and it is literally based on a wheel which spins and determines the questions that will be delivered to both opposing teams. It's a British television show created by Merv Griffin. Contestants compete to solve word puzzles to win cash and prizes like holidays and cars. In the graphic design terms of the game show, they have have very distinct colours which make the show so eye catching. What is important is how they have managed to balance out the site so that the colours are equal around the whole website and not just a whole bunch of colours on one corner of the page and dull on the other parts, this also boils down to the composition of the website which they were also unique with. They've symbolised the logo with a colour wheel then made it more stunning and modernised, they also made great use of typography. Typography is literally the style and appearance of text whether it's a still image or moving, in this case it appears that they have formed the text "Wheel Of Fortune" into a circle as it emphasises the fact that it's a wheel. Moving on to the interactive design and how it's structured on the website, i'd say that the game is aimed at adults specifically from about ages of 20-60. The reason I state this is because the questions that are asked during the game shows are questions that are not really aimed or expected for people under the age for 20 to answer. The content that appears in Wheel of Fortune is unique as well as the semiotics, the reasons for this is that they needed to come up with a complete new way of expressing themselves uniquely in comparison to other game shows such as; Deal Or No Deal, CountDown, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and many more. Next, i'd like to speak about the navigational design of the Wheel Of Fortune website. This is a very special design because they've been very interactive with it by adding bright colours which are quite impressive to the human mind. There are a number of drop down menus which make it much easier to navigate through without out any problems. The website gives you the ability to download wallpapers which are based on the Wheel Of Fortune, which is for people who have a passion for the game show itself. On the website, there is plenty of information about them and how they've progressed throughout the years... You are now able to download applications on all of your latest technology such as Apple iPhone, Apple iPad and computers. This makes it easier to play the game whilst you're out and about, you don't have to be physically attached to a computer anymore. The Wheel Of Fortune US version ranks as the longest-running syndicated game show in the States, with over 6,000 episodes aired.
